Beverley Swimmer Follows Olympic Dream

Talented Beverley swimmer heads to the British Championships this week, 5 – 10 April, hoping for Olympic qualifying times. Kieran Grant, age 17, from Beverley Barracudas swimming club has qualified in 4 events and hopes he will be joining Team GB in the pool at Paris, 2024.

With typical modesty, Kieran said he has been training hard and thanks his coaches at Beverley Barracudas for helping him to pursue his dream. Kieran commented that he is trying to contain his excitement but knows that this could be the vital step towards the Olympics.

Kieran has qualified in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle events. These are based on times that he has clocked at recent events locally. Head Coach, Wayne Smith, commented that Kieran has the qualities needed to go all the way and represent Beverley at the highest level. Assistant Head Coach, Paul Hartley said, ‘The club are immensely proud of Kieran who is a role model for the younger swimmers – he sets the standard of dedication, determination and self-discipline very high.’

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre will play host to the British Swimming Championships from 5 – 10 April 2022 – British Swimming’s flagship domestic meet – ahead of a packed international summer for the sport.

The six-day meet will help team selections for the remaining senior and junior international meets in 2022, with British and Home Nation athletes targeting big performances to get them on teams for the world stage.
