Be your own you

Welcome to the Beverley Barracudas ‘Be your own you’ programme.  This programme works in line with Swim England and is designed to develop swimmers technical skills and ability, enabling them to train and compete in a competitive swimming environment successfully.

The programme works to encourage swimmers to think about how they approach their own swimming journey.  It enables swimmers to have targets both in training and competitive environments that are for them and only them.

Swimmers successfully completing each stage of an award scheme will achieve a certificate and badge to recognise accomplishments along the way.

About the awards

Club Awards 1 – 6

The club awards are designed to assess the skills that swimmers develop at varying stages within the club. Swimmers will be assessed twice a year and coaches will complete documentation showing assessment outcomes for each swimmer.  Some of the skills swimmers will be expected to do are diving, stroke technique, underwater work and being able to use a pace clock.  As Swimmers work through each stage of the award scheme, expectations for how skills are developed increase, to work in line with the swimmer’s ability.  For full guidance and details of each award, please refer to the document attached entitled Club Awards 1 – 6.

Pre-Competition Development Awards

This programme is designed to develop swimmer’s pre-competition skills and confidence needed for those who want to enter swimming competitions.

The two awards focus on revising and consolidating efficient performance of the four competitive strokes and the racing skills needed.  For full details and guidance, please refer to the document attached entitled Pre-Competition Development.

Speed and Distance Awards

These awards are based around speed and distance performance. Swimmers will have the opportunity to gain these awards when competing in official swimming competitions.  Once a swimmer has achieved the time set for the stroke/distance this will be highlighted in either bronze, silver, gold or platinum and a certificate will be awarded accordingly. For full details and guidance, please refer to the document attached entitled Speed and Distance Awards.
